This is a view of the dam in Manchester, NH. It blocks off part of the Merrimack River and I think it's a really pretty scene in the autumn. Autumn remains my favorite time of the year in the northeast part of the US.
In the distance, you can see the tall buildings in the business section of the city. This is a view from the shore of Battery Park in New York City. You cannot see it in this photo, but to the left is the Statue of Liberty.
There are so many interesting things to see in New York City. This pier for instance, if you look at the details in the architecture you can see it's quite old and a big contrast from the modern sky scrapers in the background. This contrast between historical and modern can be seen throughout the city. Personally, I find the historical structures so much more interesting. However, it's also kind of a testament showing the constant change co-existing with what has endured for a century. A group of local boys taking turns jumping off the pier at Taino Beach on Grand Bahama Island.
Even though the end of the pier is blocked off in an effort to stop people from jumping off the pier, it remains a very popular activity with the teenagers. This is the center section of the glass ceiling of the Botanical Garden atrium in New York.
I like to find the abstract pattern within the whole of an object. Sometimes just a portion of something is more interesting than the whole piece. I particularly like the way the lines and circles keep your eyes moving towards the center and back out again. The weather continues to be stormy here, so I'm posting one of my favorites taken during a visit to New York.
I like the dramatic, stormy sky over the calm water of the river. The weather is bad again today and I didn't have a chance to get a shot I really liked - I shoot almost exclusively outdoors. Everything looks so much better in natural light.
I chose this photo of Times Square. I took this during my first real visit to New York City - as opposed to just traveling through the city. This was the the last day of my visit, which was my favorite day. My friends, who live in NY, and I just spent hours walking around. That's really the best way to see just about any place, I think. After living on a relatively small island for the past 25 years, the city was almost overwhelming. So many people bustling about, brilliant colors and flashing lights everywhere. Street vendors and sightseers, people rushing back to work from lunch breaks, taxi drivers weaving all over the place...and me, no doubt with a slightly confused look on my face, just taking it all in. It was amazing! |
